Abstract :

In this talk, we introduce a covering theorem on Riemannian manifolds, as well as its applications to curvature free inequalities. Curvature free inequalities include Berger’s embolic inequality and Gromov’s systolic inequality. Gromov firstly used the covering theorem to systolic inequalities. Such method was called covering trick by Berger. The embolic volume of a compact manifold is defined in terms of optimal constant in Berger’s embolic inequality. In the talk, we will present a result of relating embolic volume to Betti numbers by applying covering trick.
