Abstract : It is known that Nishino's theorem on the rigidity of $/mathbb{C}$ can be proved by applying the $L^2$ extension theorem (to appear in Kyoto Math. J.).  Recently it turned out that the $L^2$ vanishing theorem suffices to show a more general result which implies in particular that a complete K/"ahler manifold with a holomorphic submersion onto the disc $/mathbb{D}$ is the product of $/mathbb{C}$ and $/mathbb{D}$ if the fibers are $/mathbb{C}$.
