Abstract：

Let R be a ring and M a right R-module. M is called an ADS* module if for every decomposition M = S ⊕ T of M and every supplement T of S, M = S ⊕ T. Various basic properties of ADS* modules are proved, and some well-studied rings are characterized using ADS* modules and amply supplemented ADS* covers. For instance, it is shown that a ring R is semiperfect if and only if every 2-generated module has an amply supplemented ADS*-cover and a ring R is semisimple if and only if every module is an amply supplemented ADS* module.
