Abstract :

Many natural and engineering problems involve the interaction of free-flow and flow in porous media. We investigate three physically important inter-related mathematical questions:

1. How do the two subsystems couple?

2. Are there physically important parameter regimes where one can decouple the two systems?

3. Are there efficient and accurate numerical schemes that decouples the two subsystems in general.
