Abstract :In this seminar, I will introduce the work of Gross-Wilson, which exhibit the degenerated behaviour of a sequence collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics on K3 surfaces with 24 type I_1 singularities. The important ingredient of the proof is that they write down a remarkably accurate approximation to the Ricci flat metric by gluing suitable Ooguri-Vafa metric around each singular fiber. I will introduce the basic knowledge of Ooguri-Vafa metric, and then introduce how to gluing the Ooguri-Vafa metric to standard semi-flat metric. Then we can solve the Ricci-flat equation. If there is enough time, I will introduce the recent work of Yalong Shi and I on this problem, which improve the approximation estimates near the singular fibers so that we can know what are the bubbles of these Calabi-Yau metrics at the singular fibers.
